EURO 2012: Devic ‘goal’ reignites debate over goal line technology


The controversial failure by officials to spot a goal by Ukraine player Mark Devic in the host country’s Euro 2012 game against England has reignited the debate about the use of goal-line technology in football. In April the International Football Association Board (IFAB) has approved two goal-line systems, including Hawkeye and GoalRef, to be tested before July 2. Hawkeye is a high-speed camera based system while GoalRef uses magnetic field and a special ball. Sources:
