Venice is sinking and tilting: New study


Scientists have known for decades that Venice is slowly sinking because of centuries of building and groundwater extraction. Authorities banned groundwater pumping to prevent further subsidence, but a new study shows that natural phenomenon are continuing to make Venice sink. The Apennine Mountains are causing the Adriatic plate, which Venice sits atop, to drop. Sea levels in the city is also rising due to the effects of global warming. Source: MSNBC
